The amazing Klezmer music of Eastern Europe inspired such renowned composers as Gustav Mahler, George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein. Believed lost after World War II, it was revived in the U.S. in the 1980’s by the Boston-based Klezmer Conservatory Band. Bass player Jim Guttmann was part of the original band, still tours the world with them today and can be heard on all ten of their recordings.
Jim recently formed his own ensemble, including present and former members of the Klezmer Conservatory Band, joined by other Boston musicians, and recorded the CD “Bessarabian Breakdown.” The group brings its unique Klezmer style to performances of traditional music, as well as tunes ranging from Jazz to Gypsy to Flamenco. We are proud to have this band of masterful musicians performing our season finale, here in Pennsylvania for their first performance in our region—an event not to be missed!
